Biography

A life shaped by calling, service, and a commitment to New Testament Christianity.

Early Life & Education

Apostle James Nii-Aponsah was born on December 27, 1961, in Accra, Ghana, to Esq: Lawyer David Arthur Nii Aponsah (D.A. Nii Aponsah) and the late Madam Regina Ama Tanson. At about age three, his parents separated, and he grew up with his grandmother. He attended Kpando Roman Catholic Primary School and continued to Middle School at the Roman Catholic School. After passing his Middle School Leaving Certificate Examination and Common Entrance, he proceeded to Labone Secondary School in Accra from 1977-1982, attended the afternoon 6th form at Accra High School, and then went to the University of Cape Coast, graduating with a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma in Sociology. In 2019, he completed and graduated with a Masters in Biblical Studies.

Salvation & Early Ministry

Apostle James got saved in the secondary school Scripture Union, and his conversion was very dramatic as he was baptized with the Holy Spirit, experiencing overwhelming zeal. Starting as a singer in the Scripture Union Choir at Labone Secondary School, his desire for prayer became more intense, and he became a prayer warrior. Through Rev. Ebenezer Maquay (founder of Living Streams), he was introduced to Calvary Road Incorporated, a phenomenal group that included Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil, Rev. Dr. Ampiah Kwofi, and Rev. Eastwood Anaba. At the University of Cape Coast in 1986, he became Vice President and later President of the Pentecostal Fellowship (Pentefel), serving as board chairman for 20 years and currently serves as chairman of the council of elders.

Ministry Transitions & Liberation Bible Church

Between 1988-1990, Apostle James worked with Rev. Dr. Ampiah Kwofi. During his national service in Bolgatanga in 1990, he assisted Rev. Eastwood Anaba at Broken York Ministry for about a year, which was a real blessing to them. He also oversaw the reengineering work of the New Life in Christ Church. In December 1991, while working as an English language tutor at O'Reilly Secondary School (1991-1996), he started Liberation Bible Church. Since entering full-time ministry in 1996, God has been very faithful to His Word. His ministry is characterized by signs, wonders, healings, and miracles that confirm the Word of God, with a strong apostolic anointing for church planting and leadership development.

Vision & Impact

Under his leadership, Liberation Bible Church has grown from 15 people at Abelenkpe in 1991 to a thriving ministry with over 300 regular attendees at the R-Bonnke Chapel in Taifa. The church relocated from Abelenkpe to Tesano in Easter 2001, and finally to Taifa in 2011, where they worship in a world-class edifice seating 700-1000 people. The Apostolic Grace upon his life gives him access to churches in all 16 regions of Ghana where he conducts revival meetings. He is passionate about equipping the saints for ministry, raising up leaders, and establishing churches that demonstrate the Kingdom of God in power and truth. He has raised spiritual sons and daughters who are now pastoring churches globally, including in the US and Europe.

The Divine Encounter

A Vision That Shaped a Ministry

Many years ago, God gave me a vision that revealed how He wanted to work through me in setting free people who are in bondage. I remember in one of the visions, it was like I was driving on a particular mountain, and I heard cries of pain and anguish from the heart of the mountain. I wondered how these people could be saved; I had to dig through the mountain to reach them in the cave. But as I thought about this, suddenly a kind of pickaxe came from heaven. As I hit the mountain with the pickaxe, I wondered how it could break the rock, as dynamite would have been preferred. Amazingly, when I hit the mountain, there was an explosion, and in no time, I reached the cave where the souls were trapped. As the explosion continued, millions of people suddenly came out very happy, laughing, and jubilating. Then the Lord said to me that He was sending me to liberate the masses from bondages and controls.

There were lots of such visions of me rescuing people, such as someone drowning, and the like. It was very easy for me to understand my calling in doing ministry all over the nations. This is because my ministry is often characterized by the mass move of the Holy Spirit, salvation of souls, healings, and deliverances. I have understood that the atonement work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary is the final sacrifice that was paid for our liberation and redemption.

We have been running the vision of propagating the liberty won for us through Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. As we believe God for more funds for crusades and seminars across the nations of the world, we look forward to the Lord confirming His word with signs and wonders following.

"The Lord said to me that He was sending me to liberate the masses from bondage and control."
